Everyone I know

Everyone I know fights battles
Charging fields for others’ cause
Brandish lance and dagger
Walk with false air of swagger
Spirit ragged

Everyone I know flees something
Searching maps for peace of mind
Lost wherever they find
Halted to a grind
From time to time

Everyone I know surrenders hope
Wrapping rails and signs in yarn
Back turned to raising barn
Hay loft craft embalmed
Scars crossed by charm

Everyone I know is treading water
Dilute instilled with clear
Far as close as near
On the other side will see
We knew another way all along
