Etchings

upon the wall in the back of the garden
faces etched in stone
marked for extinction
forever never alone
surrounded by ivy
thriving in soil
rock shrub and roots
elements in cahoots
once fertile pursuits
nutrient water and time
in envelopes wait
sensibilities gestate
let us wish we are not too late
travelers catching a glint
knocking stone to flint
vaulting the wall beyond the etchings
